History of Heart Cry Ministries

Heart Cry Ministries was founded by Pastor Roger Hornbeck and has grown out of 28 years of ministering to the body of Christ in a variety of settings. Roger has a B.A. from Portland State University and a Masters of Divinity from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. He has held pastoral positions: twelve years in Brewster, Washington, six years in Santa Maria, California and nine years as pastor in Flagstaff, Arizona. Roger and his wife, Sharon, have been married for over 34 years. They have four adult children and six grandchildren.

Roger values the richness of the eclectic Christian influences that have shaped his ministry: Raised and trained in the Baptist church inspired a love for the Word of God; Vineyard teaching awakened his heart to a living, active God; and liturgical traditions have given an appreciation for sysmbols and liturgy. All of these components have been essential elements as Roger has both spoken at and planned a variety of retreats, seminars and workshops. Topics for such events have encompassed a wide range of subject matter, including teachings on the heart.

Roger has been trained in a variety of Biblical counseling methods. In addition to speaking and teaching, Roger has counseled extensively throughout his pastoral ministry using scripture, insights from psychology, and prayer ministry. His three-year study of 1 Peter 3:15 led to in-depth biblical teaching on issues of the heart, which has provided a strategic model for spiritual growth and dynamic heart change.

Roger's personal experiences, training and leading of the Holy Spirit have culminated into the formation of Heart Cry Ministries and it is his desire to help the individual to experience the growth and transformation of their hearts into the image of Christ.
